On July 18, 2026, more than 35,000 fans reportedly gathered at Plantation Cove in St. Ann for A Taste of Reggae Sumfest. What followed was a mind-blowing, 90-minute journey through one of the most defining eras in Dancehall history.

Gaza and Gully reunite on Jamaican stage
Shortly after 2:00 a.m., Kartel and Mavado entered the stage wearing outfits reminiscent of their legendary Sting 2008 appearance: Kartel in a military-inspired look and Mavado dressed in all black.
But this was not an attempt to recreate the hostility of the past. The rivalry had been transformed into a celebration of two catalogues, two legacies and an era that shaped an entire generation.
The set opened with the Anger Management Riddim before the artists began trading songs across several classic riddims. Mavado performed “Nuh Bleach Wid Cream,” with Kartel answering through “Broad Daylight.” Mavado followed with “Weh Dem A Do,” while Kartel responded with “Gun Shot.”
The exchanges continued with Mavado’s “Amazing Grace” and Kartel’s “Nuh Badda Try,” followed by “Mr. Officer” and “Hope and Pray” on the Triple Bounce Riddim.
It felt like a live Dancehall Verzuz but with genuine chemistry instead of manufactured tension.
More than one historic performance
The one-night event also featured Jamal, Ayetian, Queen Ifrica, Marcy Chin, Shawn Storm, Harry Toddler, Young Wild Apache and Shauna Controlla. The programme included a tribute to Fantan Mojah, who passed away on July 14 at the age of 49.
This year’s Reggae Sumfest had been reduced from its usual multi-day format and relocated from Montego Bay after Hurricane Melissa affected Catherine Hall and other local infrastructure. Instead of cancelling the festival, the organisers created A Taste of Reggae Sumfest at Plantation Cove.

The reunion is not over. Vybz Kartel and Mavado will bring Gaza vs. Gully to The O2 in London on September 9.
From there, they will travel to Malta for Freedom Street Europe from September 10–13, featuring two nights of Kartel and Mavado.
London and Malta now know what is coming but Jamaica experienced it first.
And judging by what happened at Plantation Cove, Europe should prepare for something much bigger than a concert.
